A tranquil riverside scene with boats and ancient architecture, capturing the essence of traditional life.
The painting captures a peaceful riverside scene, with boats and people near ancient buildings, symbolizing the simple yet spiritual daily life along a historic riverbank. The overarching theme reflects tranquility and cultural tradition.
The painting follows a realistic style with elements of impressionism. The artist employs loose brushstrokes to evoke the movement of water and reflections, while still maintaining a focus on architectural detail and figures.
This painting would be suitable for living rooms, waiting areas, or meditation spaces due to its calming and peaceful nature. It would also fit well in spaces that emphasize cultural or traditional aesthetics. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.
The mood of the painting is serene and contemplative. It evokes a sense of peace and stillness, drawing viewers into the quiet beauty of daily life near the river. There is a nostalgic and almost spiritual undertone.
The composition is well-balanced, with the river making up the foreground and the ancient structures and trees forming the background. The boats and figures are dispersed throughout the scene, guiding the viewer's eye across the painting and creating a sense of depth and movement.
The color palette is warm and natural, dominated by earthy tones like beige, brown, and light orange, contrasted with the cool blues of the sky and river. The colors harmonize to create a calming and balanced composition.

Benaras is also called Varanasi or Kashi. It is one of the oldest cities of the world which has been continuously inhabited. It has more than a three-thousand-year history. It is on the river Ganges. It is considered to be one of the sacred cities of India and occupies an important place in the religious geography of the country. Ghats in Varanasi are river front steps leading to the banks of Ganges river. These Ghats have a mystic appeal. The city is said to have eighty eight ghats. Rewa ghat was earlier called Leelaram ghat, named after the priest who constructed this ghat. In 1879, the king of Rewa purchased this and made sufficient repairs, after which it was known as Rewa ghat. The Rewa Kothi or Rewa palace is situated on top of the stairs. In 1955, this palace was donated to Benaras Hindu University. The university has converted the palace and it now houses the hostel for students of Visual and Performing Arts. It is said that the reason the space was provided to students is that the painting could be done in the early morning hours to capture the natural beauty that this ghat offers. Even today, it is not unusual to see students sketching, drawing, painting or even practising dance in the vicinity of the ghat.
