About Painting

A vibrant rainy scene with a phone booth, emphasizing the beauty of weather and urban landscapes.

Theme

The painting depicts an urban scene during rainfall with a focus on a phone booth, symbolizing nostalgia, isolation, and the beauty of everyday moments.

Style

The style combines elements of abstraction and realism, with a textured approach. The rain effect is created using splattered droplets to impart a sense of dynamic motion and depth.

Room or Space

This painting would be ideal for a living room, study, or contemporary office space, especially for those who appreciate urban landscapes with emotional depth and modern abstraction.

Mood

The mood is a mix of melancholy and calm, as the rain evokes a feeling of solitude, yet the vibrant colors hint at hope and warmth in the otherwise muted surroundings.

Composition

The composition centers on the phone booth placed slightly off-center, creating visual interest. The rain droplets are scattered across the scene, drawing the eye across different parts of the canvas.

Colours

Bright primary colors like red and blue contrast with earthy yellows and browns, emphasizing the vibrant phone booth against a more subdued background. The rain adds a translucent layer of white and grey.

Artist's Notes

Actually, it is based on a popular song from our town ÒHello 244-1139Ó. The song is about a lover trying to call his long lost girlfriend from a public booth. But he is not getting the connection. He can't believe it but the truth is she is gone. And there's no way he will ever hear from her. The pain is intense but it is his pain alone. My philosophy about this is that the sky won't get dark because of his sorrow, because at the same time others are happy, in love, having good lives, or having their own problems in this city too. So I did cityscape in the horizontal background to catch the mood of a metro city. I composed the sky with multiple contrasting colours to express the huge contradictory emotions of a mass population consisting of incalculably different kinds of personalities. Also if you examine only the boundaries, the buildings to the right are comparatively shorter and much darker than the left ones whereas the left ones are golden. It speaks of financial discrimination typical of a metro city. Undeniably this matter is much more universal and serious than the heartbreak of a single person. The water and the reflection of the boundary are to signify the eternity of financial discrimination among the human civilisation. So the pain of a particular one isn't universal enough, but it's unbearably intense for that individual lover caller who is inside the booth, so I concentrated on making the shadow speak of his pain thus it has a more dark shadow. To maintain the science behind it I situated the pole there as the scientific cause of the shadow, thus the walls don't have such intense Shadow because the source of the shadow isn't the sunlight, but the pole. But there you may ask questions about why the light is on during the daylight. The answer is pretty simple, itÕs raining on this side of the city and the poles have sensors that turn them off whenever they stop receiving the sunlight. So the pole is automatically turned on because of the cloudy atmosphere. Finally, itÕs a view from a car window, and the view is reminding the viewer about the song of the lover caller. The water drop is somewhat realistic and the view is surrealistic. When we listen to a song we create a surrealistic world in our mind based on the real events of our lives.
