The word Kathak is originated from the devnagri word 'Kathakar', with english meaning, story-teller, who narrates the stories from Hindu epics through their dances.
Kathak being originated in the ancient northern India and evolved exponentially, due to the Mughal and Persian invasion in India.
During those periods, kathak was hugely performed in the courts of kings and Sultans, with the shift in it's accompaning music, from typical Bhakti Ras to urdu gazals. Even the accompaning musical instruments changed accordingly.
Kathak, dance is recognized by it's beautiful facial and eye expressions and strong foot work.
The background of the paithing is inspired from a renowned Mughal architecture, 'Taj Mahal'. This is a form of tribute to the place of origin and evolution of this dance form.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
Please do not use soap water, detergent, disinfectants or any chemicals over the painting as it might dissolve the colors. Paper and cloth paintings are usually framed with a glass on top, hence the artwork will remain intact. You would just need to clean the glass.
