About Painting

This surreal artwork depicts a person holding a skeletal reflection, with abstract symbols conveying deep emotions.

Theme

The painting explores themes of introspection, self-perception, and existential thoughts, symbolized by the human figure confronting their internal skeleton and the brain imagery above.

Style

The style is surreal and abstract, with warped forms, distorted anatomy, and dreamlike elements. It employs figurative surrealism to illustrate inner turmoil and self-awareness, merging the real with the imaginary.

Room or Space

This painting would be suitable for a study, office, or creative space where deep thought and introspection are encouraged. Its surreal elements may also complement modern, avant-garde living spaces or art galleries. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.

Mood

The mood is introspective, eerie, and somewhat unsettling, as the figure appears to be lost in deep contemplation. The abstract and distorted imagery conveys confusion, tension, and a sense of entrapment.

Composition

The central figure dominates the composition, framed by abstract brain imagery and barren trees in the background. The swirling lines and entangled red ropes guide the viewer's eye across the artwork, creating a sense of chaos and entrapment.

Colours

The colours are dominated by muted tones of beige, reds, and browns, contrasted with bolder shades of teal and crimson. Reds symbolize intense emotions, while teal adds a calming balance to the chaos.

Artist's Notes

What is with the current stigma around overexpressing? I think we would all agree that it is considered "uncool" to express one's feelings beyond a certain degree. This is due to some of us being raised in less affectionate environments, past trauma/traumas, unpleasant relationship/relationships, subliminally conveyed messages through movies/TV shows and various other issues. This is probably leading to people burying away their sentiments, piling it all for it to one day come out as a breakdown. It is essential that we let out our frustration. This unleashing doesn't necessarily have to be by talking if you are uncomfortable. One could try singing, dancing, cleaning, cooking, painting or breaking crockery even. Almost all of us have experienced distress and the best way to rejuvenate ourselves would be by taking a break. This is not something new, but how often do we resort to it? The reasons being we either can't financially afford it or we just don't think we deserve that kind of self-indulgence. Now that we have this long break, we are in a dilemma, "Should I be productive or just chill?" Some of us are going to opt to learn new skills or work from home because our minds and bodies aren't designed to sit idle for so long. Whereas there will be some of us pressurised to do something productive because everyone is. This is the kind of pressure students, and most adults face, but it'll be heightened in a time like this. The reality is most of us are exhausted and desperately need this time off. We need to realise that without providing our mind and body with the right amount of time to replenish, we won't be able to pursue our "raison d'tre". It is high time we set our priorities straight. We can not let our fear of being someone with mediocre talent and without an actual purpose in this absolute chaos of a world to treat ourselves with less care and love than we deserve from ourselves.
