Veerangana Uda Devi Pasi was an Indian Freedom Fighter and led a battalion of women that she trained in the Battle of Sikandar (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh). She and her troops were made of Dalit women whose stories tell the tale of the determination and resilience of the Dalit spirit, which kept moving forward in the face of adversity. She killed 32 British soldiers before dying on the battlefield on November 16, 1857. She is an icon of women empowerment and Dalit leadership.
