About Painting

Depicting Yashoda chastising a mischievous Krishna, this artwork is inspired by the Bhagavata Purana manuscript.

Theme

The theme revolves around maternal love and discipline, showcasing an iconic moment from Hindu mythology where Yashoda scolds the youthful Krishna for his mischief. It reflects the intimate bond between mother and child.

Style

The painting is in the style of traditional Indian miniature art, specifically from the Pahari school. It uses meticulous detailing and fine lines, characteristic of manuscript art from the 18th century. The figures are stylized with flat perspectives.

Room or Space

This piece would be suitable for spaces that appreciate traditional art or spirituality, such as a living room, meditation space, or art gallery. It adds a cultural and devotional touch to any room. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.

Mood

The mood is a mix of playful and disciplinary, emphasizing the tender yet authoritative relationship between Yashoda and Krishna. While Yashoda appears stern, the overall mood is lighthearted, reflecting parental affection.

Composition

The composition is balanced, with the figures of Yashoda and Krishna positioned prominently in the foreground. The architectural elements on the left add depth, while the scattered pots draw attention to Krishna’s mischievous act. The negative space is effectively used.

Colours

The colour palette is vibrant, with dominant earthy tones of yellow, red, and green contrasting against Krishna’s iconic blue skin. The background remains minimalistic with muted shades of green and grey, allowing the characters to stand out.
